Information of Prepaid SIM Cards for Visitors to Japan
Below is a list of prepaid SIM cards available in Japan. Currently, almost all prepaid SIM cards are only for data communications and not for voice communications.
Almost all prepaid SIM cards use the Japanese national carrier, NTT Docomo's wireless networks, so there is no significant difference in coverage areas between them.
All the SIM cards listed below provide nearly 100% population coverage in Japan. Please note that the information below may not be the most up-to-date.
Most of the prepaid SIM cards are provided by Japanese Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs). You can purchase these prepaid SIM cards at their stores, partner hotels, airport stores, partner electronics stores, partner discount stores, and online.
You may need to show your passport when buying these SIM cards.
