All plans are prepaid, data-only, and include tax. Pick the plan that matches your stay — a longer plan is cheaper per day. Same prices for the physical SIM (+¥600 shipping).
After you use up the data allowance, the connection continues at reduced speed until the plan expires — you are never cut off. Prefer a removable SIM card? Order the physical SIM (same plans, +¥600 shipping to your hotel, Airbnb or airport post office).
Will it work on my phone?
eSIM — check these 2 things
- Your phone is carrier-unlocked. Phones bought on a contract in the US, Canada, etc. may be locked — ask your carrier to unlock it before you travel.
- Your phone supports eSIM. iPhone XS / XR (2018) and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 / Z Flip / Z Fold and newer, and most recent flagships. On iPhone: Settings → General → About → look for “Digital SIM” / “EID”.

Physical SIM — works with almost any unlocked phone
- Nano-size SIM card, delivered to your hotel, Airbnb or airport post office (+¥600 shipping).
- Same-day delivery in Tokyo and the Kanto area, next-day for most of Japan (delivery times).
- Easy to move between devices; great if your phone does not support eSIM.
How to set up
eSIM (iPhone & Android)
- 1. Open the setup email we send you and generate your QR code.
- 2. On Wi-Fi, go to Settings → Cellular / Mobile Network → Add eSIM and scan the QR code (or use the manual code in the email).
- 3. Turn on “Data Roaming” for the new line and select it for mobile data. Android: add the APN from the email if needed.
- 4. You’re connected. Keep your home SIM active for calls if you like — just make sure data uses the Japan eSIM.
Physical SIM
- 1. Insert the SIM card and restart your phone.
- 2. iPhone: connect to Wi-Fi, open the link in the leaflet and install the profile (Settings → General → VPN & Device Management).
- 3. Android: Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile Network → APN → add the APN printed on the leaflet.
- 4. Restart once more and you’re online.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When will I receive my eSIM?
A: We email the setup link usually within a few hours during business hours (9am–5pm JST, Mon–Sat). Orders placed after 5pm or on Sunday are sent the next morning. To be safe, order at least one day before you travel.
Q: Which network does it use? Is it fast?
A: The docomo network (4G/LTE and 5G), the largest in Japan, with coverage nationwide including the subway and rural areas.
Q: Can I share the connection (hotspot / tethering)?
A: Yes. Tethering is allowed, so you can share data with your laptop or travel companions.
Q: What happens when I use up the data?
A: Your connection is not cut off — it continues at a reduced speed until the plan expires. Maps and messaging still work.
Q: Can I use these SIM cards with any phone?
A: Any carrier-unlocked smartphone that supports 4G/LTE bands used in Japan (Band 1, 3, 19). The eSIM additionally requires an eSIM-capable phone (see the checklist above).
Q: How much is the shipping fee for a physical SIM card?
A: A flat 600 JPY anywhere in Japan. The eSIM has no shipping fee.
Q: Can I make phone calls with this SIM?
A: No, these are data-only plans. Voice calling and SMS are not supported; use WhatsApp, LINE, FaceTime or Skype over data. Need a Japanese phone number? See our Data+Talk SIM or phone rental.
Q: Can I get a refund if the eSIM does not work on my phone?
